Think they're telling me something?

It's December.  How in the world did that happen so quickly?  Somehow, while I've been super busy substitute teaching, soccer and basketball practice shuttling, school project assisting, sibling fight refereeing and just general busy mom-ming, the days, weeks and months have been flying by.

 New posts will be coming.  Our Elf on the Shelf returned this week.  I figured out a cool (and super simple ) way to preserve puzzles, discovered  a yummy make-your-own hot chocolate mix, and I have some gift ideas that might be helpful if you're looking for some non-electronic ideas for your elementary schooler.  There are probably even more posts that I've taken pictures for or have in drafts that just got pushed to the side for now (gosh, working out of the home almost full time takes a lot of you).

Anyway, I didn't have to worry that I hadn't taken any of the Christmas decorations down out of the attic yet.  The girls decided to decorate the mantle on their own the other day.  While I do have a nice garland, the stockings and some other decorations that I can put up, their homemade snowflakes hung up with scotch tape and yarn will hold us over for another few days.

 

Oh, and they even made a sign reminding us that it's the North Pole...

 
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's been swept up in the busy-ness of life.  Are you all equally crazy and busy too?  How do you juggle everything ~ whether you're busy working at home or out of the home?

Yay, me!  I made a New Years' Resolution last year and actually stuck with it!  I didn't start working out, lose weight, or finally get my whole house organized.  I did, however, manage to save nearly $1,400 with a 52-Week Money Savings Plan.  It wasn't that hard at all and the money I put aside was able to completely pay for Christmas this year - all the gifts for kids, our family, and their teachers, a new tree, some decorations, and even dinners out during the busy December season. Mockingjay the Movie

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central  for Lions Gate. I received a book, products, and a promotional item to thank me for participating.” Is anyone else as anxiously awaiting the Mockingjay Part 1 Movie as we are?  My two oldest and I have been counting down ever since we saw Catching Fire last fall!   I first read the Hunger Games trilogy myself a few years ago.  My kids were just in the early elementary grades and I was volunteering at the book fair at their school.  As we were working, another mom mentioned how much she'd loved the series.  At first I was hesitant... young adult fiction?  teens in a dystopian society battling to survive in a televised game?  I wasn't quite sure about the whole premise.  However, the other mom and I had similar tastes in other books we'd read so I picked up the Hunger Games and started reading.  I loved it, quickly read all three books, and started recommending the...

Basketball Krispie Treats

Last Spring, when my son played Little League Baseball, I made these cute Baseball Treats for his team.  This Spring, he played basketball for the first time and I wanted to make a similar treat for his last game this weekend.  They were really fairly simple to make and they were a big hit with the kids.  They'd also be fun for a March Madness party or any sports-themed event. Here's what you need: (makes 24 treats) 8 cups Rice Krispie cereal 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick) 1 bag marshmallows orange food coloring (optional) orange melting chocolates brown melting chocolates Here's what to do: 1.  Just like with regular Rice Krispie treats, melt your butter and marshmallows in a large pot over medium heat.  (Add some orange food coloring if you wish to tint the treats themselves. )  2.  Remove from heat, then stir in your 8 cups of cereal.  Stir until the cereal is coated with your marshmallow mixture, then spoon into greased muffin tins.  Use a p...
