Make-Your-Own Lollipops

Hình ảnh
We made these yummy lollipops at my daughter's recent Tie-Dye Birthday party .  They were a fun little treat for the girls, but they were so easy, they'd be a fun little treat to make anytime. Check them out... Now look at how easy they are to make! Here's what you need... * Hard candy (photo shows Jolly Ranchers and Lifesavers, but I found that the Jolly Ranchers "melted" the best) * parchment paper (affiliate link) - found in the baking aisle * a hard object (to smash the candies) * sturdy plastic bags (small freezer bags worked great) * lollipop sticks (affiliate link) - found in                                                     the cake decorating section of most craft stores Here's what to do... 1. Unwrap your candies and separate by colors in your plastic...

Trix Krispie Treats

Hình ảnh
I made these yummy treats for my daughter's Tie-Dye themed birthday party because the colorful swirls had a tie-dye effect.  However they were really yummy and super easy, so I know I'll be making them often as just a regular treat. The recipe is really simple because they're basically just Rice Krispie Treats, but with Trix cereal instead. Here's what you need... * 6 cups Trix cereal ( I used the swirls one) * 1 bag of marshmallows * 3 Tbsp. butter Here's what to do... In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.  Add the marshmallows and stir often until they're completely melted.  Remove from heat and stir in the cereal.  Using a greased spatula, press the mixture into a greased 9 x 13" pan (or you can use a smaller pan for thicker treats).  Allow to cool, then cut with a sharp knife. And here's the finished treats - easy, colorful, and really good!

Lunch Box Packing Tips

I have to be honest with you, there are certain chores that I don't like to do ~ emptying the dishwasher, putting away clean laundry and packing lunches for three kids every morning top my list. (There are lots of other things on that list too)   However, I realize that I can't put in more dirty dishes unless the dishwasher's empty, we need to be able to wear the clothes I've already washed and dried, and my kids need to eat while they're at school. So this isn't going to be a post showing how to make an adorable themed lunch for your child.  (Don't get me wrong, I love seeing all those cute sandwiches cut and decorated in elaborate shapes and my kids would go nuts if they ever opened their lunch box to see one of their favorite characters made out of food, but it's just not going to happen here.)   Instead, if you're like me and lunch-making isn't your chore of choice, here are just a few things that have been working well for us. Here are my ti...

Raspberry-covered chocolates

Hình ảnh
Yes, you read that correctly.  It's not chocolate-covered raspberries, but raspberry-covered chocolates!  So simple, so easy, but so kind-of-fancy!  Just pop a chocolate chip (the white chocolate ones are really yummy) into a fresh raspberry.   Our fruit market just had raspberries on sale, so I've been packing raspberries and chocolate chips in the kids' lunches and letting them put them together themselves ~ huge hit! Thanks, yet again, Pinterest , for an awesome idea. Sharing this fun little mix-up on: Tatertots and jello  I heart Naptime

Apple Puzzle

Hình ảnh
Last summer, I shared the super cool Magic Message Bananas as a neat way to add a little fun to your child's snack time or lunch box.  Well, thanks to the ever-inspiring Pinterest, I found this clever idea for apples.  Not only is it a fun presentation, but it makes it much easier for a loose-toothed kid to enjoy a whole apple at lunchtime! Check it out... Such a simple solution, but it's been a big hit with my apple-loving girls. All you need is an apple, a sharp knife  and a thick rubber band. Make a cut to the side of the stem. Then make three more cuts on each side of the stem to cut your apple slices away from the core. Put your rubber band around the middle of the apple and your fruit puzzle is ready to go! Note:  While this technique doesn't completely prevent the slices from browning, it does seem to really reduce it  (Plus, with a cool "puzzle", the kids don't even seem to notice it) Sharing our apple fun at: Blue Cricket Design Sugar and Dots  ...
