The Color Run

 If you're looking for something fun and active to do with your family, I have just the suggestion.

The kids and I just did the Color Run this morning in Washington, DC.  If you haven't heard of The Color Run, it's an awesome "fun run" that's called "The Happiest 5K on the planet".  It comes to cities all over the U.S. (and it looks like it might be headed to Australia too!)  As you run (or walk) along the course, you pass through several "color zones where you're hit with colored powder.  At the finish line, everyone has a packet of colored powder they get to throw as part of a color festival!  We definitely had a blast (as you can see from the pictures) and I'd totally recommend it as a fun activity for families. 

 (NOTE: The colored powder might be a bit too much for really young children, but my school-aged kids had a blast)

Like I said, I'd totally recommend it if your kids are school-aged (or go with other adults as a fun day out if your kids are too young).  The Color Runs do tend to sell out pretty far in advance, so check the website to see if it's coming to a city near you.

Yay, me!  I made a New Years' Resolution last year and actually stuck with it!  I didn't start working out, lose weight, or finally get my whole house organized.  I did, however, manage to save nearly $1,400 with a 52-Week Money Savings Plan.  It wasn't that hard at all and the money I put aside was able to completely pay for Christmas this year - all the gifts for kids, our family, and their teachers, a new tree, some decorations, and even dinners out during the busy December season. Mockingjay the Movie

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central  for Lions Gate. Basketball Krispie Treats

Last Spring, when my son played Little League Baseball, I made these cute Baseball Treats for his team.  This Spring, he played basketball for the first time and I wanted to make a similar treat for his last game this weekend.  They were really fairly simple to make and they were a big hit with the kids.  They'd also be fun for a March Madness party or any sports-themed event. Here's what you need: (makes 24 treats) 8 cups Rice Krispie cereal 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick) 1 bag marshmallows orange food coloring (optional) orange melting chocolates brown melting chocolates Here's what to do: 1.  Just like with regular Rice Krispie treats, melt your butter and marshmallows in a large pot over medium heat.  (Add some orange food coloring if you wish to tint the treats themselves. )  2.  Remove from heat, then stir in your 8 cups of cereal.  Stir until the cereal is coated with your marshmallow mixture, then spoon into greased muffin tins.  Use a p...
